ROBOCLUB of AITD in association with Institute Innovation Councill (IIC) had organised a 2-day Drone building workshop AEROTRONICS under AICTE – Scheme for Promoting Interests, Creativity and Ethics among Students (SPICES) on 31st March and 01st April 2023.

Mr. Deepak Swain from OSSEB who has been developing various drones for Agricultural applications was the Resource person for the workshop. Executive member Ms. Lorraine Pinto introduced the Resource to the participants and briefed the topics covered in the 2 days of the workshop. President of ROBOCLUB Mr. Valentino Fernandes welcomed the Resource with a Flower Bouquet.

On Day-1 the participants were introduced to Basic concepts and the components needed to build a Drone, Types of drones and their applications during the first session. In the second half, the students were divided into team of 6, with each team assembling F450 Drone frame, with BLDC motors, ESC and APM 2.8 Flight controller. Followed by the Calibration of Gyro and GPS on Mission Planner software by the end of the First day of the workshop.

On Day-2 the participants were introduced to the Basic flight control concepts, Thrust calculation for lifting the Drone and Flight time calculation for selection of the Battery. Later using Flysky Radio transmitter and receiver, completed PID calibration of the Flight controller in the Forenoon session. Post lunch the students tested the Drones built by them on the college ground.

The Resource person also motivated the students to build Drones and participate in various competitions organised. Faculty Advisors Prof. Shiva Krishna J, Prof. Vrushali Prabhudessai and Prof. Diksha Prabhu Khorjuvekar co-ordinated the workshop and handed over the certificates to all the participants. A total of 53 participants were benefitted from the workshop.
