The 7th edition of the India International Science Festival was held in hybrid mode (physical and virtual) from December 10 – 13, 2021, in Panjim, Goa. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the seventh edition of India International Science festival (IISF- 2021) along with Chief Minister – Dr. Pramod Sawant. India International Science festival (IISF) is a joint programme of Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), an NGO working for propagation of science. The main purpose of IISF was to celebrate science along with people in India and across the globe. Some of the events at IISF were Science Village, Traditional Crafts and Artisan Meet, Games and Toys, Global Indian Scientists and Technocrats Fest, ECO-FEST, New Age Technology and Mega Science and Technology Expo.
Agnel Institute of Technology and Design-Assagao, participated in the IISF 2021 for the Science and Technology Expo under the Stall of Directorate of Technical Education, Goa. The innovative final year student Project showcased at the event was “Recycled Plastic composite bricks”. The team members were Fritzgerald Fernandes, Chris Fernandes, Reagan Picardo and Mahadeo Narvekar students of Mechanical Engineering Department. This innovative project aimed at designing and engineering a machine using simple techniques and inexpensive components for production of paver blocks and roof tiles made from recycled plastic which is sorted, shredded and melted using LPG burner using suitable amount of fine sand that is added to shredded plastic which acts as binding agent. The Innovative project was done from scratch by the final year students and hence fetched the attention of numerous visitors at the expo.
The Nodal Officer from the institute for coordinating the Expo for the IISF 2021 was Mrs. Nora Naik, Assistant Professor & IIC President, AITD-Assagao.
