Biodiesel production using waste cooking oil

Fossil fuel contributes to around 80% of world energy needs, the consumption of fossil fuel is the main reason for global warming, climate change and air pollution. Biodiesel can be an alternative for fossil fuel as it produces less pollution which will intern reduce global warming.
For the biodiesel production, waste cooking oil was collected from different restaurants and food stalls. Transesterification process was used for converting waste cooking oil to biodiesel. The conversion percentage is around 82%, this also depends on the quality of waste cooking oil.
Mostly jatropha seeds are used for producing biodiesel, but the initial process of plantation and crushing of seeds increases the overall cost of production. Whereas waste cooking oil can be obtained free as we would normally dispose it.
Biodiesel have higher cetane rating (51 cetane) compared to petroleum diesel (48 cetane) making it more efficient.Biodiesel can be an alternative for fossil fuel as it produces less pollution which will intern reduce global warming. Using biodiesel we can reduce emission of, sulphur dioxide by 100%, soot emission by 40% to 60%, carbon monoxide by 10% to 50% and hydrocarbon by 10% to 50%.
